As the EMS side of Stafford Volunteer Fire Department continues to grow, you may start seeing a new patch representing the volunteers staffing Ambulance 1502B and Medic 1502B.
While this patch is new, its design is rooted in the history and identity of our department.
โญ THE STAR OF LIFE
Instead of the traditional Maltese cross associated with the fire service, our EMS patch takes the shape of the Star of Life โ the nationally recognized symbol of Emergency Medical Services.
The traditional navy and gold colors come directly from Stafford Volunteer Fire Departmentโs longstanding insignia, while the center medallion changes to green, a color commonly associated with first aid, safety, and medical response. It also serves as the medical counterpart to the red medallion used on our Engine 2 / Truck 2 design.
๐ฟ๏ธ A FAMILIAR FACE WITH A DIFFERENT MISSION
At the center is our Company 2 squirrel mascot โ this time trading fire suppression for patient care.
Heโs outfitted for EMS with a stethoscope, medical uniform, helmet bearing our familiar โ2,โ EMT insignia, and a green trauma bag featuring its own Star of Life. Behind him, a cardiac rhythm line represents the lifesaving medical care our EMS crews provides.
The design deliberately connects our fire and EMS identities. The mission may be different, but the people, traditions, and commitment to our community remain the same.

Whether you see our volunteers arriving aboard Engine 2, Truck 2, Ambulance 2, or Medic 2, the patch may be different โ but what it represents isnโt:

Weโre proud of the continued growth of our EMS program and even prouder of the volunteers who dedicate their time to providing emergency medical care to Stafford County.
