| We remember the 2,977 lives taken that day, including the 343 FDNY firefighters, 23 NYPD officers, and 37 Port Authority Police officers who made the ultimate sacrifice while answering the call.
For those of us in the fire service, September 11 carries a special meaning. The images of firefighters climbing the stairs of the World Trade Center—going up while thousands were coming down—remain a powerful reminder of service, courage, duty, and sacrifice.
This Sunday, members of the Stafford Volunteer Fire Department will help carry that legacy forward by participating in the Tunnel to Towers Stafford County 5K Run & Walk.
We climb and participate in honor of those who never came home, and in support of the mission that continues to care for our nation’s fallen first responders, military members, and their families.
As September 11 approaches, we encourage our community to take a moment to remember—not only how our nation was attacked, but how Americans came together in the days that followed.
