| 100% of the Time. Yesterday, Today, and Tomorrow.
Over the years, we’ve received questions about what our longtime slogan, “100% Volunteer, 100% of the Time,” means now that career firefighters are assigned to Station 2.
The answer is simple—it represents who we are and where we came from.
Long before Stafford County Fire & Rescue existed, Stafford Volunteer Fire Department members answered every call for service. Our department, along with other volunteer companies throughout the county, laid the foundation for the fire and rescue system that serves our community today. We proudly continue to display this slogan in honor and memory of the generations of volunteers who dedicated countless hours to protecting Stafford County before a career department was established.
Today, the fire service has evolved.
The reality is that people have careers, families, and countless responsibilities outside the firehouse. While the desire to volunteer remains as strong as ever, the availability of volunteers has changed. That is why career firefighters have become an essential part of ensuring someone is always ready to answer your call for help.
What makes Station 2 special is that we remain the only volunteer station in Stafford County that continues to fully staff a fire suppression apparatus entirely with volunteers on a consistent basis. Our members routinely staff an engine or truck with all-volunteer crews while also working side-by-side with our career personnel. In addition, we are one of only a handful of stations in the county capable of fully staffing an ambulance or medic unit with an all-volunteer crew, further demonstrating the dedication and commitment of our members to ensuring emergency services remain available to our community.
Many days you’ll see: 🚒 An apparatus staffed entirely by volunteers. 🚒 Volunteers riding alongside career firefighters as one crew. 🚒 Career personnel joining volunteer crews to provide the best service possible.
That is what a true combination fire station looks like.
There is no “us versus them.” There is only one mission—serving the citizens and visitors of Stafford County.
We are incredibly fortunate to work alongside an outstanding group of career firefighters who support our volunteer mission just as much as we support theirs. Together, we train, respond, eat dinner, learn from one another, and most importantly, serve our community as one team.
While our staffing model has evolved, our commitment has not.
Our volunteers continue to donate thousands of hours each year because they believe in serving something greater than themselves. Our career personnel dedicate their profession to protecting this community every day. Together, we provide a level of service that neither could accomplish alone.
So yes, you’ll continue to see “100% Volunteer, 100% of the Time.”
Not because we ignore how we’ve evolved—but because we proudly remember those who built this department, celebrate those who serve today, and recognize that the volunteer spirit remains alive at Station 2.
If you’ve ever considered giving back to your community, there has never been a better time to join us. Whether you’re interested in firefighting, emergency medical services, operational support, or helping behind the scenes, there is a place for you at Stafford Volunteer Fire Department. Every volunteer strengthens our mission and helps ensure we’re ready when our neighbors call for help. Come be a part of something bigger than yourself and help us continue our tradition of service to Stafford County.
