Becoming a Paramedic is not easy… and that is exactly why they are so respected in the field of public safety and healthcare.

After first becoming an EMT, Paramedic students often complete 12–18 months (or more) of advanced education involving:
• Classroom instruction
• Clinical rotations in hospitals
• Emergency room experience
• Intensive hands-on patient care training
• Ambulance field internships

Paramedics are trained to perform advanced life-saving skills including:
⚡ Advanced cardiac monitoring and interpretation
💉 Administering life-saving medications
🫁 Advanced airway management and intubation
❤️ Treating cardiac arrests and severe trauma
🩺 IV/IO access and fluid resuscitation
🧠 Stroke recognition and advanced medical assessments
🚑 Critical care interventions before arriving at the hospital

These providers make split-second decisions during some of the worst moments in a person’s life. Whether it’s a heart attack, severe car accident, respiratory emergency, overdose, or critical illness — Paramedics bring advanced emergency medicine directly to the patient.

At SVFD, we are proud to work alongside dedicated volunteer and career EMS professionals who continually train to provide the highest level of care to our community.

Interested in challenging yourself, serving others, and becoming part of something bigger than yourself?

Consider joining the EMS profession. The path may be demanding, but the opportunity to save lives and make a difference every single day is unmatched.
