Monty joined us back in 2014 while serving at Quantico as a Marine. Since retiring, he continues to volunteer his time with us.

- What inspired you to become a volunteer firefighter?

I would pass the station daily and read "Volunteer" on the side of the building for years. One day, I finally ran out of excuses and decided to join. I also have to thank Dave Stewart for the inspiration - plus, who doesn't grow up wanting to ride a fire truck?

- What motivates you to keep showing up and helping others?

In addition to the tremendous support we receive from the community, it is the look of relief on people's faces when we arrive at a scene.

- What’s your favorite memory with the team?

My favorite memories are simply sitting around in the bay with the crew and the training sessions that would go late into the night because everyone was so engaged that no one kept track of the time.

- What advice would you give someone thinking about volunteering?

Stop thinking about it and come out. Run towards the chaos!
